Universal Handrail to Newel Post Fixing Kit
This kit has been designed to simplify connecting the handrail to newel process, it can be used on horizontal landing or angled stair rails. The Universal handrail to Newel Post Fixing kit will allow you to fix a rail between two existing or new newel posts at non-standard staircase pitch.
Please note that this kit is not suitable for our Low Profile (LHR) Handrails. For Low Profile Rails use the Universal Zip fixing.
This set will connect one end of a rail to a newel post and contains all the fixings you need.
Timber plugs can be used instead of the cover button provided. Plugs can be cut flush to the newel post, sanded and finished to give a hidden fix finish.
These kits are not suitable for use with half newel posts, we suggest screwing through the half newel into the end of the rail before attaching the newel to the wall.

- Newel Post Bolt 85mm
- Square Rail Plate 32mm x 32mm
- Bolt Washer
- 4 Fixing Screws
- Timber Cover Button.
Handrail to Newel Post Fitting Guide
- Fix Newel Posts into position and allow time for any adhesive to set before attempting to fix the handrails
- Cut Rails to the correct length and angle
- Mark the position of the square plate on the newel post and on the end of the handrail
- Using a sharp chisel rebate the newel post to accommodate the 32mm x 32mm square plate
- Drill a hole a half inch into the end of the rail so the threaded spigot on the square plate fits snugly
- Using the screws provided fix the plate onto the end of the handrail. Note you may have to drill a deeper hole in the rail if you have small newel posts
- Drill the newel post to take the bolt. Counter sink the head of the bolt into the newel post so the Cover Button fits
- Note you may have to adjust the depth of the bolt to suit your newel post size
- Repeat the process for the other end of the rail
- Offer up the rail to the newel post, pass the bolt through the post and tighten into the square plate on the rail
- Use a suitable wood glue to fix the cover button to the newel post.
